Projects: Jena's local transport system has always contributed its share in making the city an environmentally friendly and livable place. The trams have been running on electricity for nearly 120 years. With the help of the funding, the first three fully electrically powered city buses started regular service. This is the starting signal for the conversion of the bus fleet towards climate-friendly electromobility in Jena that is usable and affordable for everyone.

Modern fast charging systems/high-performance charging systems for electric buses were installed for the charging process. In addition to the conversion of the local public transport vehicles to electric drive, the securing of maintenance and repair of the electric buses in workshops was also part of the funding measure. The project has been completed.

Another funding project aims to reduce the traffic volume in the inner-city by means of a modern traffic control system. For this purpose, the traffic light network is to be modernised. The so-called environmentally-oriented traffic management in Thuringia uses the latest data on air pollution to regulate the traffic flow.

The following speaks for the projects: Jena is a pioneer in terms of electromobility in local public transport. A climate-friendly, well-developed public transport system makes a considerable contribution to a liveable city and makes cities future-proof.
