Construction of a new walking and cycling path southeast of the railway line

The construction of the new walking and cycling path southeast of the railway line is a follow-up measure within the scope of the deconstruction of the "Rengelröder Weg" railway crossing and the erection of a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists known as the Heiligenstadt "Blaues Wunder". The inauguration of the bridge, which connects two districts of the town, took place in 2017. Just recently, the new adjacent path was built. It is 230 metres long, 2.50 metres wide, and for its surface, concrete paving stones were used. Finally, the new bridge construction project at the railway station has reached its completion, with the path having been completed.

The new walking and cycling path along the railway line, directly connecting residential areas with the city centre, really invites residents to go for a walk or take a ride on their bikes. The measure was implemented in 2020.

The project, funded by the Free State of Thuringia, was co-financed by European Union funds within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
