ERDF Annual Event 2014
The European Commission has approved the Operational Programme for the implementation of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in Thuringia for the new funding period 2014 – 2020.
"This is a good day for Thuringia!", said Thuringia's new Economics Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee at the ERDF Annual Meeting in Erfurt. "Thuringia benefits from Europe: The European funds make an essential contribution to the modernisation and further development of the economy, research, and infrastructure in Thuringia. "Around 1,165 billion euros are available to Thuringia in the new funding period. The new state government is committed to the goal of supporting Thuringia's economy in expanding its competitiveness." In the coalition agreement, they had stipulated that all
economic promotion instruments from the federal government or the European funds would be fully co-financed with state funds.
The new EU funding period's objective is to strengthen Thuringia's economy: For the first time, the field of
research and technological development receives the largest share of ERDF funding within a funding period.
A good 333 million euros.
Strengthening entrepreneurial competitiveness is another central priority. This is to be done through foreign trade promotion and as well as investment support for small and medium-sized businesses.
Around 283 million euros.
The areas of energy and environment also play an essential role in the new funding period. Around 230 million euros have been planned for the implementation of the energy transition.
Sustainable urban development will also receive a boost in the future: With a funding increase from 84 to 152 million euros, Thuringia's municipalities are to receive further tailwind in their development.
